The Family Photos You Didn’t Know You Needed.
Emily is one of my favorite humans… an incredibly talented artist and photographer, social justice and environmental activist and overall awesome human being. I had the opportunity to spend a day with Emily and her two not so littles while they enjoyed some little local adventures. It’s amazing looking back at this day in February before the pandemic began. Life looked so different. There was no social distancing. No lack of toilet paper on the shelves in the grocery stores. No one was wearing face masks. Bernie still had a chance at being the Democratic nominee. So choosing these images on a Saturday night in October, 8 months later, life is so very different.
I am so grateful I was able to make these images. Family Day in the Life Experiences are so special. A glimpse into your every day. Here are a few of my favorites from this extraordinary ordinary day.

So yesterday “I did a thing,” as they say.
My incredible photographer friend Stephanie came over and hung out with me and the kids on a play hooky day. She brought her camera and documented us doing what we do on a mostly typical sort of day. We hung out at home with the dogs, had a couple donuts at Dandee Donut down the street, went to my favorite thrift store, got some groceries at Aldi and stopped by a crystal store.
She sent me a big batch of previews already and I cried as soon as I clicked the first images. I have so many words I want to say about being photographed this way, but I’ll save it for later when I write a longer thing. There is a lot of talk about being seen, or being heard, or feeling seen and those sorts of things. I thought I knew what that meant… but seeing these images made me understand that you must see yourself first. Thank you SO MUCH Stephanie, I’m so, so lucky to know you and have you share your gift with me. She’s not only an insanely talented photographer, but a genuinely wonderful human and so easy to be around while you are vulnerably being yourself in front of her lens.
