1. Brainstorm Ideas with your Photographer
Of course your Photographer will come with plenty of creative solutions for locations. If you don’t have a brick and mortar location, collaborate with your Photographer on location ideas. Do you want it indoors or outdoors? What is the vibe and color story you’re looking for? Your Photographer will know all of the perfect locations in your area to accomplish these Branding Photos for you.
2. Go Somewhere Outside the Box
For this Wedding Musician I wanted to photograph them somewhere you wouldn’t normally come across a Harp. I thought it would be epic to do some photos in nature or a Downtown / Urban location. We chose a Downtown location in Asheville for their Branding photos and they came out STUNNING. Sometimes you need to choose a creative spot that might not make sense, to make a big statement.
3. Your Workplace
This Therapy office has tons of great spaces outside of their office building where we make little photo studios. Of course the sessions are always “weather permitting” when we know the shoot will be outdoors, but the lighting is perfect and being outside gives more space to spread out while also not disturbing the patients.
4. Match Your Vibe and Color Story
If your brand is known by colors, or lack thereof, choose a space that compliments it. This Mitzvah Photographer is known for her love of rainbows and bright fun colors. An urban area with tons of fun colorful murals was PERFECT to stay consistent with her colors and vibe. If you don’t have any colors for your brand, neutrals are best. Black, White and Earth Colors might be your best bet.
5. Rent a Peerspace, Studio, Hotel or AirBnb
Many Photographers do not have dedicated studios to work out of so renting a space for the shoot is such a fun idea for these scenarios. Peerspace is my personal favorite for studio spaces by the hour. They run around $200 an hour but they are worth every penny when you get vibes like this Designer below. The next time you book a staycation or a vacation consider booking a Branding session while you’re at your hotel. I try to book a Branding Session every time I go out of town to have a variety of images for my Social Media!
6. Storytelling with Location
Picking the right location is so important for the Storytelling aspect of your Branding Session. This Architect company always books their sessions in the same area of Miami for consistency but also because their Clients are in Miami! Consider a session where your Clients would relate.
7. Nature is often the perfect backdrop
This Yogi wanted dynamic Branding Portraits for her new Yoga brand. We chose a park near her home to create some stunning portraits of different poses. Locations that inspire you are always a great idea.
8. Don’t overthink it
Often times I photograph Branding sessions in my Client’s home. If you have great natural light and a clean and organized space, we can absolutely shoot at your place. It’s more comfortable for you, no driving required and you don’t have to deal with inclement weather.
The location you choose for your branding photo shoot is more than just a backdrop—it’s a strategic decision that can profoundly influence how your audience perceives your brand. By carefully considering your brand’s personality, target audience, and the story you want to tell, you can ensure that every image captured resonates authentically and powerfully. Whether you opt for an urban setting that mirrors your company’s dynamic energy or a tranquil natural environment that reflects your commitment to sustainability, your chosen location should serve as a compelling visual extension of your brand’s identity. So, take the time to explore, envision, and select the perfect location—it’s an investment that will pay dividends in the form of memorable, impactful brand imagery.
