Day in the Life Experience Frequently Asked Questions | Capital Region Family Photographer | Tiny House Photo

So now you know what a Day in the Life Experience is from this blog post and now we’re going to answer all of the questions you probably have about these unique family sessions. Here are the most asked questions I’ve received over the years about the Day in the Life Experiences.

How much does a Day in the Life Cost?

At the time of this blog post (January 2026) I have two different offerings.

Half Day (up to 4 hours) $700
Full Day (up to 8 hours) $1,500
+ Gif Movie $900

Day in the Life Experiences are long and I deliver a lot of images to tell the story. I take over 5,000 images for a full day – as much as a typical Wedding! Prices are subject to change.

Where do you offer these sessions?

Tiny House Photo is based in Albany, New York but I travel often. I’m open to travel anywhere in New England. If you’re over three hours drive from Albany, there will be additional fees for travel. I am currently local to Saratoga Springs, Hudson Valley, Albany and all of the Capital Region, Brooklyn and New York City, Berkshires, Syracuse, Western Connecticut and Southern Vermont.

If I have a trip planned to South Florida (December – March only) I can also offer these sessions anywhere in Florida without travel fees.

What is a GIF Movie?

So these days are often photographed as one long gif, or many gifs stitched all together. Lots of movement if that makes sense. So I started creating these little movies to music with every image taken of your day. It’s a labor of love for sure and they take extra time, but so much fun in the end. Here is an example of a Day in the Life as a GIF Movie.

How are the images delivered?

I use a gallery service for every session. You are able to download individual images, by chapter or the entire gallery in high resolution or web sized. There is a professional lab attached to your gallery but you are also able to download files and order prints at your favorite lab. I recommend downloading the gallery and storing in several places: your computer haddrive, an exteral harddrive and a cloud based storage.

Can we have posed photos too?

lf at the end of the session you’d like one posed family photo, I’m happy to do that for you, but for the entirety of the session, there is no posing or direction at all. I am definitely not a fly on the wall but there is zero direction or posing during these sessions. I offer Lifestyle sessions which are lightly posed, but basically the opposite from a Day in the Life.

Does a Day in the Life have to be at home?

They typically start at home. These days are best when incorporating your everyday routines, family meals, errands and life at home. When we have a discovery call we can talk about the details and what you’d like to do during your experience.

If you are on vacation and want a Day in the Life, we can start at your hotel or vacation rental and then go out into the world to do whatever it is you’re doing on vacation.

What if our house is a mess?

That’s the beauty of these sessions, they are REAL. I’ll be documenting everything including you doing dishes, laundry, etc. Let that be a part of your day. These sessions aren’t just about connection but also reality. Parenting is hard. Let this be the proof of your current reality. Don’t obsessively clean the house before your session, let the piles of laundry be a part of your experience.

Are Day in the Life Experiences good for older kiddos?

Yes! I have documented several families with tweens and teens and it was totally fine! It’s a little less running around for me, but totally valid. Definitely plan an itinerary so they have something to do other than Tiktok or video games! If they have after school or weekend activities like dance or sports, that might be a fun thing to include in your day. Or planning a fun trip to pick apples or go for a family hike.

How do Day in the Life Experiences differ from
a normal Family photo session?

Traditional family photos are 20 – 90 minutes of gently posed portraits where Day in the Life is pretty much the complete opposite. I will arrive at your home either around Breakfast or Lunch and document your day as a family. I’ll follow individual family members around and just document interesting things, even if it’s brushing teeth or blow drying hair or doing laundry. Trust me when I say, there is beauty in the mundane, the ordinary.
